In March of 2009, the Kollel launched one of the city’s first ever, free Young Professional (21-40) Shabbat dinners. Over 60 participants packed the room with delicious food, good spirits, fun singing, and lots of ruach. Participants were able to experience a laid back, but traditional Shabbat meal with chicken soup and all, while socializing with new friends and old youth group acquaintances.
Since then, the Kollel has successfully executed 10 similar events, all with between 50-70 young professionals. The response has been so overwhelming from this generally unaffliated demographic, the Kollel are currently planning a 20’s Shabbat program, where Jews out of college can meet more peers while learning about Shabbat and Judaism in a relaxed, free environment. As well as Shabbat dinners, the Kollel also offers Starbucks study opportunities for this age group, as well as speakers series, ranging from relationship experts to a Jewish diamond trader’s success tips.
